Understanding Our Users

Luis is a first-time parent who needs access to information on prenatal care, baby care, and medical consultants; because they don’t know what preparation they need for the baby and how to take care of the baby.

Kimiko is a first-time parent who needs resources for labor and birth recovery, they also need to find reliable babysitters and be able to find some help whenever they need it; and because they live alone and need help to take care of the baby when they are working.

Ideation

Start of The Design

Digital Wireframe

The digital wireframes layout the sketches of the product, please click bottom below to see more digital wireframe and the low-fidelity prototype. The low-fidelity prototype includes the user flows of viewing different pages, and testing different functions.

Usability Study Findings

The participants self-identified as first-time parents and were recruited online. Participants were asked to finish a series of tasks and follow-up questions, the example of tasks included “Enter Forum page, and visit Dr.C for urgent care” and so forth.

The affinity diagram and insights were created after analyzing the data, the findings were used to develop high-fidelity prototypes and look for aspects that need to improve for mockups.

Affinity Diagram

  • Functional Error

Users had difficulties using the Home icon at the navigation bar on the Library page, they couldn’t go back to the homepage by clicking the Home icon.

  • Interaction Deficiency

Users did not get any response after clicking “Visit Now” to visit an online doctor; and no response after clicking “Reserve now” for reserving activity through the activity info page.

  • Missing Content

Users were unable to see section content by clicking the section title, a content page with section information and a list of articles potentially missed.

Refining The Design

Mockups

Compared to the wireframe, the mockups fixed the functional error on the Library page, increased the interaction, and added the section content page. Show as below:

The section content page is added to have a smoother user flow.

Users will be navigated to confirmation page after they click “Reserve now”.

Users will enter the meeting room after choose “Visit now”.

Tablet and desktop version of mockups.

High-Fidelity Prototype

The high-fidelity prototype presented flows of accessing articles through the Library page; communicating with other users and access to 24/7 help through the Forum page; exploring and reserving activities through the Activity page.

Future Steps

Further usability studies will be conducted in the future to ensure the app meet users’ expectation, the pain points are addressed, and the user flows are smooth.
